Happy Birthday, Mom 2008
By Terrie Soberg | January 17, 2008
Mom turned 64 today. She probably won’t be happy to know that I shared that with the world, but my dad has it on
the family calendar, so it’s not really a secret. I am glad to be closer to my Mom after so many years of being away. Now that I am a Grandma (yikes, can you believe that?) I can appreciate her feelings more. When her first grandbaby, Scotty was born, she did not want to be called Grandma. She chose Nana for her name, but I didn’t like that so I called her Grandma anyway. Scotty got older and wasn’t able to say Grandma Bonny very well, so he called her Grandma Bunny. That name stuck and it’s really easy to find cute little Bunny items and graphics that fit. The children enjoy being able to see Bunny more often. She is busy and I am busy, but I find comfort knowing that she is nearby.
The funniest thing about my being a grandma is that Mom and Dad are now Great-grandma and Great-grandpa. When I first found out that Scotty and Carla were going to have a baby, well, I about died of shock. But after that, I started thinking about what that meant. I remember thinking about my parents being great-grandparents and I just laughed and laughed. Dad likes to be called G’Bob, something I think Craig made up. I guess the great-grandchildren will call him GG’Bob. That’s pretty cute–I like it! I’ll have to see what Dad thinks about his new name.
The thing I enjoy about blogging is seeing how my thoughts develop as I write. Even if no one really ever reads my writing, I still have fun!
Anyway, happy birthday, Mom! We can still pretend that you are only 39–the youngest great-grandma I know!
