I think we have found Plan C.

Since we haven’t heard anything about the Rum River Home, we went to see a house in Orrock today with Roger the Realtor. I first heard about the house because Jennifer wrote me an email that her all-time favorite dream home in the world just had a major price drop. Unfortunately she has already purchased and moved into her new home, so getting the Orrock house is no longer an option for her. Her instructions to me were to either buy the house so she could live vicariously through me, or tell it was a horrible moldy disaster so that she wouldn’t keep pining away and wondering. Well, it’s definitely not moldy!

I can see why she liked it so well. The house has six bedrooms and four bathrooms and is on 2 1/2 acres of land. There are obviously children living in the neighborhood as evidenced by the multiple sets of snow people in the nearby front yards. The owners must have had the house built for them and their obviously spared no expense. The woodwork is beautiful as are the raised-panel doors and the full-size side-by-side refrigerator freezer. There is a livingroom (complete with the Christmas tree still up!), a familyroom, and a recreation room. David insists that his brand-new tournament size, slate pool table will fit very nicely there. Keep dreaming, honey!

We told Roger that we really like the house, but that we love the Cambridge house and want to see if that is going to go through first. If we haven’t heard anything by Friday, I think we will put an offer in on the Orrock house.

We have been looking for houses since we can’t seem to get an answer about the Barn. After searching on the internet for possibilities, we found one that looks pretty good. We told Roger the Realtor about it, and he drove an hour and a half to meet us there to see it. The place is gorgeous! There is over 4000 square feet of home with five bedrooms and four bathrooms. There is also a good-sized unfinished apartment, a nice playhouse for the children, and a huge pole barn. The best thing is that there is 5 1/2 acres of land that backs up to the historic Rum River with about 150-200 feet of river frontage. I have wanted to have my own photovideo studio where I could do outdoor portraits and this will be perfect! Plus there is plenty of room for a nice garden. We would even go to church with Jen and Mark and be closer to Kirk and Shara, and Dave’s brother, Gary.

The present owner bought the house about two years ago for $365,000 but has had trouble making his payments so the house has been on the market for about a year. I’m not sure if this is a short sale or a foreclosure. The house first listed for $474,000. They dropped the price to $358,000 and then to $299,000. I was on the internet and asked David if we could go see it. The price I found was $250,000 and it turns out that they just dropped the price $49,000 the day before I saw it. We knew that it wouldn’t last long at that price, so we offered full price at $250,000 and asked them to pay closing costs. Everything is subject to bank approval, so now we start the waiting game again. The bank committee is supposed to meet next Tuesday so hopefully we will get an answer then. We also asked Roger to pull our offer from the barn. We’re keeping our fingers crossed and our prayers raised on this one!
